Who Am I?
My name is Ms. Ballinger, Ms. B for short. I am a proud Western Michigan University graduate. I found my place at WMU after transferring from Adrian College. Originally I choose Adrian College to take my passion for softball to the next level but I shortly realized it wasn't a good fit. I wanted to be able to pursue a degree and balance all of my extra hobbies that include: Softball, art, and music. So, I came back home to enroll in WMU and began the path of teaching and coaching. For all of my school years I have thrived in the English department. What I value most about English classes is that it contains many different sub categories that promotes personal expression. I truly value the components of mental health and try to emphasize social emotional learning. I knew I wanted to be a teacher since childhood and I am grateful to be able to fulfill my purpose in life,
Dear Parents,
thank you for allowing me to be an influence on your wonderful children. to further promote success in my classroom, I would like to encourage you always contact me with any questions, concerns, recommendations, and accommodations that can be helpful to your child's learning experience. My contact information is directed in the section below. You can contact me by text, phone call, and email between the given hours. I would also like to note that highschool is a very stressful time in an adolescents life and support at home makes a difference! A grade does not determine intelligence but it does affect how a student values themselves. to keep a positive personal outlook for all my students, i would like them to have a solid support system to lean on. From home this may look like: Comfort instead of punishment for a bad grade (they are hard enough on themselves), regularly checking in with your child's mental heath and stress load ( and helping where you can), Attending their extra curriculars (if they have any), and reaching out to all their teachers to stay updated on where your child is at academically. The school will regularly hold conferences but an extra step of involvement goes a long way.
I would also like to note that in my class there will be mature and controversial assignments that encourage open-mindedness of different opinions and beliefs. If you have further questions regarding those assignments please contact me. thank you,
- Ms. Ballinger
